Welcome
UKCEA is a registered charity with the explicit aim of promoting education and training relating to General Practice. Although the membership consists mainly of Associate GP Advisers in General Practice and Directors of Postgraduate GP Education, it has observers from the Royal College of General Practitioners, GPC, NAPCE, ACO, AUDGP (Association of University Departments of General Practice), and a GP Registrar representative. It is the main craft organisation of the UK’s Associate Advisers, providing support through educational fora throughout the year, culminating in the annual residential conference which rotates around the UK deaneries. UKCEA offers bursaries of up to the value of £5,000 to its members, assisting them in carrying out original research or to pursue a personal interest in education and training. Output from the bursaries is presented at our annual conference and often submitted for publication. It has recently developed a skills directory of its members (now available on the website), enabling them to work jointly on topics of common interest and to call on each other’s expertise. UKCEA’s Quality Assurance panel accredits distance-based learning activities for education providers and learners alike. The organisation runs a mentorship programme for all new associates and is considering a co-mentorship scheme for all its members. Through its workforce committee the UKCEA collects and provides robust evidence for negotiating the salary of all GP Educators. UKCEA has an excellent working relationship with all the important GP education bodies, but has developed a special and close collaboration with the National Association of Primary Care Educators (NAPCE). The two organisations now share a website, a newsletter and run several joint conferences throughout the year. Over the last year we have also been working closely with the National Association of Course Organisers (ACO) with the aim of bringing together the expertise of all the pre and post CCT Educators .This will enable us to be cost effective and reach a greater number of GP Educators.
